This Lorem Ipsum generator produces pseudo-Latin placeholder text by paragraph, sentence or word count, with optional HTML markup so you can paste it straight into a template.

Where the text comes from

Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin derived from Cicero's philosophical work De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC). The words look like Latin but don't form meaningful sentences, so reviewers look at the layout instead of reading the copy.

Generator options

• Paragraphs (1–20, each with 4–8 sentences), sentences (1–20, each with 4–16 words) or words (1–100).
• Include <p> tags wraps each paragraph in a paragraph element. In sentence mode the whole block gets one tag.
• Bullet points outputs a <ul> list with one <li> per paragraph or sentence, and takes priority over <p> tags. Neither markup option applies in word mode.
• Start with "Lorem ipsum..." opens the text with the familiar "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet".
• Word and character counts exclude HTML tags.

Best practices

• Test with realistic content as well. Long headings, button labels and translations that run longer than English can break a layout that looked fine with filler text.
• Don't use placeholder text in usability tests where people need to understand the content.
• Before launch, search your templates and CMS for "lorem" to catch filler that was never replaced.
